Density Test

Hi there everyone,

We have finished up all our labs and are ready to take the test.  The students have a pre-test and the answers are included below.

Density Pre-Test

This means that we are almost done with chemistry and ready to move on to physics.  To kick us off… we will see The Physics Force on Wednesday January 13th.  If you have any questions, email me at mark.russo@spps.org

Thanks!

Density Simulation

Howdy folks,

Students have been working on mass volume and density this quarter.  To practice these skills for the upcoming test, students will use a virtual scale and displacement device to find the density of 5 blocks.  Density can be used to identify a substance so once the density is determined, students will check it against a table of known densities and determine what the substance is made of.

How Do Chemists Describe Matter?

They can describe matter lots of different ways.  Right now 6th graders in Russo’s science class are learning about weight and how it is different from mass.  Mass is a measure of how much stuff is in an object and weight is the force that object applys due to the force of gravity.  Change gravity and the force changes… but the mass will stay the same no matter where you are.

Later on, we dive into volume and then the biggie… density.

Chemistry

Howdy folks,

Parents:  The quarter is ending, check your 6th graders work on Campus so there are no surprises on the report card.  Conferences are next week… no need to sign up, just drop by.

Want to see what science looks like here at Monroe?  Check out our highly scientific study on the terminal velocity of vegetative matter with sudden terrestrial collision.  IMG_7308

Students:

Now we start diving into chemistry.  In order to start right we need to make sure we get the words matter, chemistry and substance clear.  Click on the link below to get started.

Student Survey

Hi there folks,

6th graders, the quarter is almost over and it is time to check in to see how I can do better.  Here is a quick survey that we will do in class today.

Parents… don’t think I have forgotten about you.  Feel free to email me at mark.russo@spps.org and tell me what needs to be improved.

Variables

Howdy folks,

Parents, ask your 6th graders about variables.  They should know …

The Manipulated Variable is what You change.

The Responding Variable is what You measure.

The Controlled variable is what You keep the same.

Here is what we have been working on for the past few days.
